Exclusive: Thelvnguage Takes It Nice and Slow with New Single "Lazy Baby"

Fernando Michael Garcia September 21, 2018

We live in a world where time is money, jobs are stressful and demands are high. Too often we're concerned with jumping to the tune of our alarm clocks, chugging down our morning coffee, and speeding to work as cars honk over our blaring, cheap morning talk radio. For our NYC readers, it’s more to the tune of pushing ourselves into a crowded subway car that, for some reason, has no air conditioning. But hey, at least we get to work on time? Enough is enough. Thelvnguage wants to slow you down real easy and show you there’s more to life with their new single, “Lazy Baby”.

Hailing from The Bronx, where many artists and bands are born, Thelvnguage consists of Rob Van Zandt (vox/guitar), Vinny Mannarino (drums) and Mike Stephens (guitar). Initially forming as a music project between Rob and Mike, the grown, now self-proclaimed psych/jazz/funk trio, has conquered more than most. By gracing New York City stages the likes of Rockwood Music Hall, The Knitting Factory, and The Bitter End - not to mention the famous Bronx Brewery - Thelvnguage has hit top speed with no signs of ever slowing. down These guys have a tremendously unique sound and a smooth yet eclectic musical foundation built on the influences of R&B, rock and jazz. Above all, this experimental trio deserves the name they’ve made for themselves.

The new single, “Lazy Baby”, is a prime example of their evolving sound. A quick, sporadic, drum line hits the ears almost immediately only to soften into a wave of airy blues accompanied by a funky beat. Rob’s vocals flow onward with a tone slightly reminiscent of an early 50’s crooner that combines well over the soft and distorted guitar licks. It's easy to get carried away over this uncompromising indie/blues sound, and between you and I, I’ve had this track in heavy rotation over the past few days. With lines like, “Scrambling around at this pace I can’t control, and I’m tired…”, this track clearly wants you stop and take a breather. It’s good to be reminded to stop and smell the roses, and Rob couldn’t agree more, “The primary influence was honestly when I was in my old position and I was on my way into the city on the 5-train. I was just being my nihilistic self thinking, “Where in the world is everyone actually going? I’d bet like 95% of the people sitting here right now don’t want to move from their seats, it’s 7AM dude.” I’m right there with you, Rob, I know I never do.

This world is crazy, and if you’re like us, everything starts to make sense once you pick a song and press play. Do yourself a favor and pick Thelvnguage to ease your next morning commute, or frankly, any time you need a quick getaway. This is a band your friends will obsess over; why not beat them to it? So from Thelvnguage to us, and now to you, take it easy, and don’t forget stop once in a while to breathe.

“Lazy Baby” will be available 10/5/18 on all streaming platforms, but for now, here’s an exclusive listen on us.

Jackie Venson Releases New Song/Visual 'Only Have You'

Christopher Vasquez May 1, 2018

Jackie Venson released the visual to her new song, 'Only Have You,' this week ahead of her New York performance at Rockwood Music Hall this Wednesday 05/02/18.

Jackie's new song is a savvy composition that's wonderfully crafted with a summery 80's vibe and cutting-edge guitar play.

Jackie's breezy vocals are illustrated in full force here, coupled with a gravitating synth, that draws Jackie's guitar licks out with soulful precision.

Jackie Venson - (Official Music Video) - ‘Only Have You.’ Directed by Megan Cardwell.

Directed by Megan Cardwell, the video highlights Jackie's emotional pain as she is unable to be with her lover for one last week. She fills that void with a dream of them being together one more time.

Make sure to watch the music video and add, 'One Have You,' to your playlist today.

Jackie will be performing at Rockwood Music Hall on Wednesday 05/02/2018. Show starts at 7pm with pre-sale tickets still available.

American Pinup Ravels On Their New EP - 'Get Better'

Christopher Vasquez May 1, 2018

Yonker’s very own American Pinup released their new EP, “Get Better,” in April and the 4-piece record has had us hooked for the past several weeks - especially off the heels of their album release party at Barney McNabb’s.

The album is another testimony to the band’s explosive indie-rock sound that simmers perfectly with strong melodies, in-depth compositions and electrifying command that showcases American Pinup’s punk-rock swag.

The band will be on a nation-wide tour this year as they kicked off their anchor date in front of a packed-house at McNabbs.

Check out their Get Better 2018 on the dates below. Make sure to catch AP in your town!

Jackie Venson Releases New Visual/Single - 'Don't Lie to Me'

Christopher Vasquez April 22, 2018

Jackie Venson released the visual/single to her new song, ‘Don’t Lie to Me,’ earlier this month.

Jackie has continued to wow us with her electrifying guitar licks, simmering melodies and down-to-earth persona since we witnessed her performance at Rockwood Music Hall in December.

On, ‘Don’t Lie to Me,’ Venson tears apart the pain of her lover’s betrayal through a lyrical illustration of honesty, humility, but most importantly - healing - by overcoming her lover’s disloyalty. Her powerful storytelling fueled with heart-break authority and the willingness to overcome provides her listeners with a roaring guitar play that symbolizes the artist’s most enduring points.

Along with a island vibe and good ol rock ‘n’ roll, Jackie’s thrashing guitar riffs and touching melodies truly makes this song one of our favorites for April.

Watch the visual below and add, 'Don't Lie to Me,' to your playlist today. You catch Jackie in NYC during her residency at Rockwood Music Hall. Jackie we'll be performing live on Wednesdays, 05/02/2018 and 05/09/2018.

Unique and Distinctive Flows Blossom on Young Thug's Latest Singles

Christopher Vasquez April 22, 2018

Atlanta’s very own and fashion icon, Young Thug, posted up with Nicki Minaj, Lil Uzi Vert and 21 Savage this month with the release of three new songs under the “Hear No Evil” singles.

On, ‘Anybody,’ Thugger’s unique and distinctive quirkiness teamed alongside the sensual flows and seductively raw lyrics of Nicki Minaj. On, ‘Up,’ Lil Uzi Vert and Thugger’s quirkiness bring on another trap record perfect for ATL’s most sexiest and provocative strip joints. 21 Savage on, ‘Now,’ illustrates his lyrical ferocity and ruthlessness as he complimented quite well on Thugger’s third track of the set.

These singles have certainly made our playlist over the weekend. Add to yours today!

Swae Lee's Latest Track, 'Guatemala,' Has Us Hyped For Summer!

Christopher Vasquez April 16, 2018

Swae Lee's latest track, 'Guatemala,' has us ready for summer and we couldn't be thrilled enough.

Featuring his brother, Slim Jxmmi (one half of Rae Sremmurd), Swae Lee roars into 2018 where he left off - spoon-feeding us tropical accents and sensual vibes that fuse perfectly over grooves island-esque beats.

This is definitely a track to add to your playlist this week!
